What is HCM?

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic heart disease that affects 1 in 500 people in the U.S. HCM is the leading cause of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and death in young people (those under 40), including young athletes.

The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA) has tools available for you to assess your risk of sudden cardiac arrest and to assist you in planning for cardiac emergencies in your schools, work places and community settings.
